It is no secret that Squamish is a rapidly growing community.
Since 2011, our municipality has repeatedly outpaced the provincial average growth rate. That’s why it is so important that we ensure that our facilities have the capacity to serve the mini baby-boom that is leading to a growing number of young people in our community.
We are so fortunate that previous generations of citizens and community leaders invested the time and effort to build Brennan Park into the great multi-use facility that it is today. Brennan Park provides a great foundation that we can build on to meet the needs of a larger community.
Expansion at Brennan Park will mean that we can accommodate more recreation programming while also giving Squamish the ability to host more tournaments and events so that parents and athletes can spend less time commuting to other parts of the Lower Mainland. District staff has been working hard to deliver a revised master plan for Brennan Park to set a framework for expansion. Council has had the opportunity to see the preliminary plans, and they are exciting!
A second sheet of ice, a new fitness centre, and an indoor soccer pitch are just some of the possibilities that are being offered.
I encourage our community to continue to be involved with the future visioning for Brennan Park expansion, and I am committed to advocating for the necessary resources to ensure that expansion happens in a timely manner to keep up with rising community demand.
