The date for Refresh Market, one of B.C.’s largest indie markets, has been set for the end of this month. Dozens of vendors, many from right here in Squamish, will be selling their locally-made products, from clothing and jewelry to soap and tea. Around 2,500 people visit the market each day.
In Squamish, we love to support local businesses, both big and small. There is a special feeling that goes along with buying something made right here. It’s the connection to the producer and the amazing products that we value.
The Squamish Farmers’ Market, which opened last weekend, is another example.
But in the increasingly popular “buy local” movement, community newspapers are often unfairly left out.
The Chief is as local as it gets.
Not only do we focus on Squamish and bring our readers the most important information about the district, our newspaper also employs Squamish residents, from the editorial team and production to the administrative department and the sales team, and the people who stuff and deliver the newspaper to your doorstep.
We exist because of our readers and advertisers. We cover hard-hitting stories, community events, entertainment, sports, the arts and more.
Often, the stories The Chief writes wouldn’t be covered if we didn’t because the large news outlets have too much area of focus.
We’re the ones who get it first and provide the most detail to our readers – and The Chief is the only news source to employ full-time journalists, as well as a range of columnists.
The Chief aims to keep those in power accountable, tell the story of people who are doing interesting things and highlight events in the district. Essentially, we connect the community. What’s more local than that?
So, the next time you want to support a local business that employs locals and is good for the community, remember that you already are by reading The Chief, and when the topic of “buy local” comes up please remind others of us. Thank you.
