Costly concerns

EDITOR,

The headline in a recent edition of the Whistler Question (June 28) trumpets: "Muni staff costs down by $1.2 million in 2011." How nice it would be if Squamish council would or could emulate Whistler, including not raising their own salaries (despite some candidates, now in office, during the election process, promising not to do so)and including a mayor who not only does not opt for a tax increase but actually returns a portion. This is where Coun. Doug Race deserves commendation for his constructive action in giving his raise to charity. Meanwhile, whither goest Squamish 2012?More waste, more extravagant spending, more deploymentof funds on "wants" rather than crucial needs?More broken promises? And ultimately, more tax pain for taxpaying residents?
