Editor,

My husband and I are so sick of all the negative talk about Independent Power Projects in The Chief lately. My husband had a job because of the Harrison Hydro LP that was built by Pete Kiewitt Sons' Inc. for the company Cloudworks Energy Inc.

Phase 1, of this project, employed, 300 people over the three years that it was built. Phase 2 of the project that was recently approved, will employee, another 200 people.

They had to follow strict guidelines to build the project and there was minimal impact to the environment once the project was copulated and up and running.

A typical run-of-river project consists of the following: an intake structure at which some of the water is diverted, a pipeline (penstock) through which it travels downhill, a small powerhouse, a tailrace where the water is returned to the stream above (or as close as possible to) a natural barrier to fish movement.

These environmentalists, journalists etc. are totally misinforming the public about IPP's for no apparent reason since IPP's cause the least impact to the environment, of any other power options!
