Anyone donating baked goods is asked to take them to Hilltop before the noon hour. Participate in the 50/50 draw and the in-house raffle and, don't forget to drop by and visit the residents. This annual event is sponsored by the Hilltop House Support Society and many willing volunteers.

The Squamish Environmental Society will hold its monthly bird count on Sunday (June 12) with everyone meeting at the Howe Sound Inn and Brew Pub at 7 a.m. This month, the birders will be looking for insect-eating birds such as flycatchers. The next date for grocery distribution from the Squamish Food Bank will be Wednesday (June 15) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Alano Club on Third Avenue.

Plans are well underway for the Woodfibre reunion on Saturday, July 23, at the CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park. To date, more than 70 people have signed up to attend at a cost of $35 each. Anyone over the years who has worked or lived in Woodfibre is invited to attend. The Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital were pleased to donate $10,000 to the Squamish Health Care Foundation towards the pharmacy upgrades at the hospital. The gift shop at the hospital now has a selection of evening bags and stoles for grads and a nice selection of jewelry.

The Howe Sound Women's Centre is planning a Mystery Dinner Theatre fundraiser on Thursday, June 30, at the Nita Lake Lodge in Whistler. All proceeds will go toward a Women's Drop-In Centre in Whistler opening this fall. The centre will expand much-needed services to women and their children in the Whistler and surrounding areas. The cost is $100 ($50 charitable donation receipt available). A Digital Photo Books session will be held at the Seniors Centre on Wednesday (June 15) at 10:30 a.m. Learn how to scan images, use memory cards, USB flash drives and media for your images to create a digital photobook. Register at the centre for this event.

The co-ordinator for the Relay For Life is Lisa Merrick and to date, she said 32 teams have signed up for the 12-hour event on Friday (June 24) at 7 p.m. to Saturday (June 25) at 7 a.m. The goal for this year is to raise $140,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society and to date, the revenue is $22,000. There is still time for more teams to enter and lots of ways for residents to donate to this great cause. Give a pledge to a team, light a luminary on June 24, participate in the silent auction, have a massage or haircut, and for the kids, face painting. Seniors interested in the Stanley Park/Prospect Point bus trip on Thursday (June 16) are asked to phone Elaine at (604) 898-5463 in the next couple of days. The Van Dusen Gardens/Queen Elizabeth Park trip is scheduled for Thursday, June 30.

The talented performers of the Howe Sound Dance Academy present The Wizard of Oz in six performances - Friday and Saturday (June 10 and 11) and next weekend (June 17 and 18) at the Eagle Eye Theatre. Cast A performs today (June 10) at 7:30 p.m., Saturday (June 11) at 2 p.m. and Saturday (June 18) at 7:30 p.m.; Cast B performs Saturday (June 11) at 7:30 p.m., Friday (June 17) at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday (June 18) at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for students and are available at the Village Green Garden Centre, 1861 Mamquam Rd. (behind Canadian Tire).

Also, the Squamish Youth Ballet is staging auditions for its production of the Nutcracker this December. Shalimar Blanchard is seeking dancers to audition on Thursday (June 16) from 5 to 5:45 p.m. for dancers aged 8 to 11 and 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. for dancers aged 12 and up.
