I don't know what benefit Squamish received from the highway closure but if that is the support given to the bike ride, it is time we stopped it. Any local patience given was not voluntary. One can't be sure about how profit making is the enterprise, but a celebration of healthy lifestyles does not need to put upon others. That "only a couple of hours" stuff is a false excuse for what was not needed for a bike ride.
The highway was indeed paid for by everyone but mostly for cars. Bikes do not need to co-opt the road in order to ride on it. Your disdainful comment about what may be Squamish disgruntlement, whether we go there or not, is reaching rather far.We are not ever bound to have this kind of disturbance just because someone imagined it to be the latest whoop de doo.
