Editor’s note: On May 20, Squamish council voted 4-3 to eliminate the $30 fire permit fee. The Chief received this letter before that decision.
I would just like to voice my support for Mr. Raiser’s plan to change the fire service bylaw to be free and utilizing an online application process (“Raiser looks to axe fire fee,” Chief, May 15). One of the great things about Squamish is our rural nature and many families, including my own, have enjoyed the campfire experience with our children in our own backyards safely and responsibility.
We have paid increasing levels of property taxes over the years and should not be forced to pay additional fees to enjoy one of life’s simple family pleasures.
