Free dump day should be easy to manage. It should stay for good, as the letter in The Chief ("More 'free' dumping required," May 6) says. But the problem has always been timing and dates for most people. Bring back free dump day. How much is it costing us to have all these piles of trash all over town to clean up? Never mind all the people squatting in the woods in our town. I suggest that each house and building lot get a punchable ticket that allows them to two or three free pick-up runs per year. That way tenants and owners can dispose of long-standing trash on the day that is best for them. This would discourage people finding areas in the woods to dump the trash. I also say that recycling and yard and wood waste should be free to dump to encourage the mulching project and reuse of or compostable goods. Otherwise, why separate stuff if you're going to charge the same rate of all of it?
