The 26th annual Brackendale Eagle Count will be held on Sunday (Jan. 8) with counters meeting at the Brackendale Art Gallery at 8 a.m. The Gallery will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

All levels of keep-fit exercise classes begin the week of Monday (Jan. 9) at the Seniors Centre. A new program, Rhythmic Gymnastics, begins on Tuesday (Jan. 10) and runs each Tuesday and Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. until March 29. The centre was successful with its application for the Forever Active Bodies (FAB) incentive grant, which helps ensure that women 55 years and older have the opportunity to participate in sports and activities. This grant allows the centre to offer this class at no charge for the winter season. The class will incorporate the graceful movements of rhythmic gymnastics using the traditional equipment such as ball, ropes, ribbons, scarves and hoops and will include gentler, more graceful music. Don't worry, there won't be any tumbling! Please register at the front desk for these free classes.

On Thursday (Jan. 12) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Squamish Public Library and the Quest University Canada Lecture Series will welcome Dr. Fei Shi to the library for the Curious Case of M. Butterfly. The talk will focus on the famous Canadian film director David Cronenberg's masterpiece M. Butterfly - a cinematic adaptation of Chinese-American playwright David Hwang's play.

Storytimes at the Squamish Public Library will resume on Sunday (Jan. 8) until Friday (Feb. 24).

The Caregivers Support Group will meet at the Seniors Centre on Wednesday (Jan. 11) from 2 to 3:30 p.m. For more information, please call Howard or Nadine Goodgrove at (604) 892-6400.

After presenting a wonderful Christmas concert, the Sea to Sky Singers will begin rehearsals next week in preparation for their spring concert. Rehearsals will be held each Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in St. John's Anglican Church. The Hilltop House Support Society will meet in the activity room on Thursday (Jan. 12) at 9:30 a.m. New members are always welcome to attend.

Evening drawing and painting lessons for beginners and intermediates will be held at the Seniors Centre starting on Wednesday (Jan. 11) with talented Ken Davidson leading the classes. On Thursday (Jan. 12), join Barbara and get your toes tapping at the line dancing sessions. The weekly knitting circle also begins on Jan. 12; take your needles along and wool is available at the centre. These knitting classes are free to members but $1 for non-members.

Registrations are now being taken for the Squamish Relay for Life to be held at Brennan Park on June 22 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Early registration is $10 before Jan. 31. For more information, please call (604) 898-5205 or email [email protected].

The Rotary 200 Club draw winners for December were: Delores Lewis ($100), Suzie Soman ($120), David Southam ($130) and Brent Mortensen ($150).

The Adult Afternoon Book Club at the Squamish Public Library will meet on Thursday (Jan. 12) from noon to 1 p.m. to discuss the book Shelter by Frances Greenslade.

Beginner computer classes begin on Monday, Jan. 16, at the Seniors Centre. This introductory class includes computer components, hardware, software distinction, introduction to wireless tour of Windows XP, Google toolbar, email and basic operation of a computer.

Are you a woman who enjoys singing in harmony and having fun? Then consider joining the new Sweet Adelines chorus. Sweet Adelines sing in four-part harmony, barbershop-quartet-style arrangements. They use movement and expression and enjoy performing upbeat numbers. Check them out on YouTube for sample performances. The chorus is open to women of all ages and singing abilities. The Over the Hill Hikers will meet at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 10) at the north end of the Alice Lake Bypass for a hike to Cheshire Kitten/Cat Lake. For more information, call Heather at (604) 892-9003.

The Tantalus Walking Club will meet on Thursday (Jan. 12) at 10 a.m. at the Fisherman's entrance for a walk down the dike and the Woodpecker Trail. If you have any questions, call Joyce at (604) 898-5594.
