Easter services, activities abound

Rain or shine, the annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Squamish Firefighters Association will be held on Sunday (April 24) at 11 a.m. at Brennan Park at the field behind the arena.

Take your skates along as there is a special Easter skate starting at noon hour when the Easter Bunny plans to put on his skates too!

Churches in our community have special Easter services and music planned on Sunday (April 24) and you are welcome to attend the church of your choice.

Two Easter Dino Egg Hunts are planned on Sunday (April 24) at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Britannia Mine Museum. Think a bunny comes at Easter? No way! At the mine museum, it's the dinosaur, Britanniasaurus Rex, who hides the eggs. Guests are urged to come and hunt for eggs and minerals around the site, and perhaps catch a glimpse of the rare dinosaur.

Admission to the hunt and other family-friendly activities planned on Easter Sunday is free for museum members, or for the price of a single-day admission.

The Squamish Public Library has its annual Kindergarten Reception on Friday, April 29, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The free event is for all students currently attending kindergarten in Squamish. Come out for an hour of stories, read by local kindergarten teachers, teacher librarians and principals. For this fun event, wear your pyjamas and bring along your favourite stuffed toy. Each student will receive a free gift donated by The Friends of the Library and milk and cookies, donated by McDonald's.

The Howe Sound Women's Centre is having its 5th Annual Mother's Day silent auction/fundraiser at the Cliffside Pub on Saturday, April 30, from 5 to 9 p.m. The burger and beer tickets cost $10 each and are available at The Bookshelf, Billie's Bouquet and the Cliffside Pub. The women's centre appreciates the generosity of the community each year. The evening includes entertainment, a 50/50 draw and door prizes. The Squamish Historical Society has its annual general meeting on Thursday, April 28, at 6 p.m. at Pepe and Gringo's Restaurant. A new board will be elected. Members and new members are welcome and for more information, please call Bianca at (604) 815-8725.

The Britannia Mine Museum is having a volunteer spring clean-up day next Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the museum. Those who come out to help get the museum grounds ready for the busy summer season will receive a free lunch. There is a fine selection of Easter bunnies, chickens and ducks on display at the gift shop at the Squamish Hospital along with other gift items. Tickets for the Spring Raffle (draw May 6) are available at the shop. The Women's Auxiliary to the Squamish Hospital appreciates your support.

A travel insurance presentation will take place at the Seniors Centre on Tuesday (April 26) at 6 p.m. Pre-registration is required. The monthly Soup and Sandwich day is Thursday (April 28) at noon. Take your pick as tap dancing, Scrabble and bingo will start Thursday at 1 p.m.

Hike for Hospice is planned for Sunday (May 1), beginning with registration at 9 a.m. at the Adventure Centre parking lot. Pledge sheets are available at the various medical clinics, Hilltop House, Squamish General Hospital and Garibaldi Graphics.

Please support Hospice as they (trained volunteers) continue to support the bereaved and people facing end-of-life issues. All money raised stays in this community.

The Evening Book Club at the Squamish Public Library will meet on Thursday (April 28) at 7 p.m. to discuss Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides.

WOW (Women on Wheels) is a senior women's cycling group and they will start their summer riding on Monday, May 2, at 10 a.m. at the Canadian Tire parking lot. The age group ranges from 55 to 75-plus and although some rides are much longer, the average ride is 20 kilometres. New riders are welcome but they are asked to sign a waiver.
