Thanks so much for publishing Kirsten Andrews’ timely article on our home and the Squamish CAN Eco Home Hop. We had a wonderfully sunny day and a great turnout on Sunday October 26.
Over 150 folks – from newlyweds to empty nesters, and everything in between – participated in viewing five homes with a range of environmentally preferable features. It was great to have so many folks out and there was some great dialogue on alternative heating systems, water conservation, passive solar design and how to incentivize more ecologically responsible residential construction in Squamish.
As the first of its kind in Squamish it was hard to know what sort of reception we would get but it’s clear that there are plenty of locals who are keen on responsible building. Thanks for joining us.
I’d like to express my gratitude to the other homeowners– Tom Honey; Sharon and Shaun Gosnell; Mario Gomes and RDC Fine Homes who opened their doors and the directors and volunteers from Squamish CAN who supported this event.
With all the construction activity in Squamish, I’m sure there will be some new examples of innovative building practices at this time next year.
