Fall events on the horizon

Twenty-four students ranging from six to 12 have been in rehearsals these past three weeks and they are ready to share their talents. Tickets at $7 for students and children, and $15 for adults can be purchased at the Squamish Academy of Music on Second Avenue and at the Squamish Adventure Centre.

The theme luncheon at the seniors centre on Thursday (Aug. 29) at 11:45 a.m. will feature grilled salmon, rice medley, vegetables and broken glass cake. Please purchase tickets ($9 members, $10 non-members) by Wednesday (Aug. 28). Nancy Warwick from the Squamish Public Library will have a display of interesting books that may be of interest to seniors.

Do plan to attend the afternoon tea and music from the Melodious Mandolins from Vancouver on Saturday (Aug. 24) at 2:30 p.m. at the Shannon Falls Retirement Residence on Third Avenue. This is a free event for the community. On Friday (Aug. 30) a hot dog sale will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the $2 fee includes a juice box and chips.

Don Evans invited everyone to the West Coast Railway Heritage Park tomorrow evening (Friday, Aug. 23) at 7 p.m. for a special slide show entitled Out of Africa.

The 19th annual Brackendale Fall Fair is just a couple of weeks away on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Exhibit entry forms and category lists are available at the Brackendale General Store and All Keys and Locks. The category list is also available at www.brackendalefallfair.ca.

The Squamish Seniors Society's annual fall barbecue will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the centre. Tickets are now on sale at $10 per person. Exercise classes for all levels will start the week of Sept. 3 and registrations are now being taken at the centre.

The Squamish Historical Society (SHS) is looking for old footage of Squamish in anticipation of a book to be published with the Squamish Photography Society in 2014 as well as on Facebook and Twitter. There may not be a movie theatre in Squamish, but a free event, Cinema Under the Stars, is pleased to be bringing the Steven Speilberg classic movie E.T. to the O'Siyam Pavilion Park in downtown Squamish on Thursday (Aug. 29) at 8:30 p.m. It should be a fun evening for all the family.
