Janet Hickey-Blackburn, VGH manager for home and community care in the Sea to Sky Corridor, will speak about housing options for seniors including the topic of aging in one's home, available support and contacts. Paid-up members of the Seniors Centre are automatically members of the society but new members are always welcome. Please plan on attending and during the afternoon, refreshments will be served.

I'm not sure if there are still tickets available for a Day Out with Thomas at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park this Saturday and Sunday (June 8 and 9) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. but a call to 1-888-222-6608 or go to www.ticketweb.ca/dowt to find out. Tickets are $23 each for ages two years and up.

On Sunday (June 9) the Squamish Environmental Society will meet at the Howe Sound Inn and Brew Pub at 7 a.m. for the monthly bird count. Members will be looking for swallows and swifts, which are related to swallows. New participants are always welcome and for more information, please contact Judith at (604) 892-3340.

The Relay for Life sponsored by the Canadian Cancer Society will be held on Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Don Ross Secondary School. This is when the community comes together to celebrate cancer survivors a chance to remember loved one lost and continue the fight against all cancers. The Shannon Falls Retirement Residence on Third Avenue will welcome Nancy Warwick from the Squamish Public Library on Thursday (June 13) at 2 p.m. when she will have an interesting display of books for the residents to peruse and check out.

The Hilltop House Support Society will meet on Thursday (June 13) at 9:30 a.m. and there is always room for interested members of the community to attend.

The annual barbecue at the Seniors Centre on May 25 was a great success and a lot of fun. The Squamish Fiddlers entertained and one member (and the youngest), eight-year-old Sophie Hill stole the show with her excellent fiddle playing and singing.

On Sunday (June 9) the Rev. Charles Balfour will return to St. John's Anglican Church to lead the 10 a.m. service as part of St. John's Centennial year celebrations. The service will be followed by a potluck luncheon.

This evening (Thursday, June 6) at 6:30 p.m. the Squamish Public Library will welcome author and Cancer Warrior Michelle Pammenter-Young as she shares an inspirational and revealing look at her recent battle with inflammatory Breast Cancer.

The Hilltop House Support Society meets on Thursday (June 13) at 9:30 a.m. when others in the community are welcome to join the group.

Antony Holland's Shakespeare will be on stage at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Saturday (June 8) at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the BAG or Xocolatl at $20 each.

Please note the Squamish Public Library will be closed on Wednesday (June 12) for a professional staff development. It will reopen on Thursday (June 13) at noon.

On June 13 at 6:30 p.m. the library presents an evening with local travel writer and journalist Arno Kopecky sharing stories and images from South America. He will share images and stories from his first book, The Devil's Curve.

The Squamish SPCA is staging a fundraiser at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Friday (June 14) from 7 to 10 p.m. Entitled Whiskers and Wine, the $25 tickets include wine, appies and dessert, and there will be a silent auction and music. Tickets are available at the BAG, the SPCA shelter, Eagle View and Garibaldi vet clinics and Paw in Hand.
