I was extremely disappointed with Mr. Lypka’s article on Womens World Cup Soccer FIFA 2015 regarding the suit filed against FIFA for not providing real grass playing fields for the Womens Cup. Mr. Lypka’s tone in his article is disturbing and is a typical young male response to a lack of support for women's sports. Mr. Lypka refers to the top female soccer players in the world as beggars can’t be choosers. Wow, sorry Mr. Lypka for disturbing your sports analysis news stories with trivialities about women's sports rather than another story about an NHL team that is incapable of winning a Stanley Cup no matter how much money is thrown at them. As Mr. Lypka pointed out, the FIFA organization has a profit of several billion dollars. So happy to hear that the organization owners can drink expensive scotch but Womens FIFA top players have to play on a sub-standard surface that is known to cause injuries.
The misogynist tone of Mr. Lypka’s article is even more disturbing in that it does not hold the values of a small town newspaper regarding equality in sports for all, especially in a town that calls itself the Recreation Capital of Canada. I guess it's only a recreation capital for a few. Mr. Lypka didn’t mention how to get tickets or provide a link to a site where fans can buy tickets to the Womens FIFA 2015 World Cup. Please go to http://www.fifa.com/womensworldcup/organisation/ticketing/ and buy tickets for your children, sisters, mothers and friends. I urge young women reading his article to disregard his disrespectful and rude comments and continue to play any and all sports that girls and women choose to participate in. The 2015 Womens FIFA event occurs across four cites in Canada, Ottawa, Edmonton, Winnipeg in June and July 2015,and with the final game occurring right nearby in Vancouver. Let’s promote women’s sport because it appears Mr. Lypka does not.
