I am very disappointed in the Squamish Chief’s coverage/acknowledgement of our local Paramedics during fire prevention week and the featuring of Squamish’s Heros. There are a number of local Squamish residents that work as Paramedics and they work tirelessly for the community behind the scenes and the recognition that is received is little. But when it's fire prevention week and RCMSAR and SAR are featured and not the Paramedics of this community it makes them look like the forgotten children of the group. I also witnessed at the Squamish Fire Rescue Open House a photographer for the Chief walk past two paramedics and take others pictures and not even acknowledge the work that they were doing. They came out after working all night for our community with very little sleep and still came out to show kids and educate them on what they do and how an ambulance is not scary. They constantly had smiles on their faces. They get referred to as "Ambulance Attendants" or "Ambulance Drivers" when they are trained as Paramedics.
No matter what and unfortunately no matter how long it takes for them to get there, they will be there and they will give you the care and attention that you deserve in your emergency.
So, please remember that Squamish’s BCAS Paramedics are also a vital part of the emergency team. They don’t need to be referred to as one of Squamish’s Heros but it would be nice to see them receive a little acknowledgement.
