Editor,

Our family just acquired new bicycles to commute from our home to work (or school) to do our part on the environment as well as get some exercise. I had all safety extras installed on our bikes, as we were going to use the bikes on the roads.

On Friday, Oct. 9 at approximately 8:15 p.m., I was riding my bike from my business (Gelato Carina) to my home on Ross Road in Brackendale. It was just north of the Shady Tree on Government Road that I hit a very big pothole on the side of the road and was catapulted over the handlebars into the middle of the street.

It was shear luck that no car was approaching at this time and I was able to half crawl/half pull myself off of the road. A car stopped to assist me and call 911. I was in so much pain, I did not know what hurt!

An ambulance arrived at the scene and shipped me to Squamish General Hospital, where I underwent X-rays and blood tests to make sure that I did not have any internal damages. Fortunately, all I had was internal bruising and bruised ribs and arms. I am writing this three days after the accident and I am still not able to sit or lay properly.

As a "double" taxpayer in this municipality, I would like to see the implementation of a proper bike lane network within the district of Squamish. We do call ourselves the "Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada" and we can't even bike safely on our roads.
