GAS under the gun

EDITOR,

Re. "GAS development footprint being reduced," Chief, Jan. 30.

Back up the train, halt the presses. GAS has made a "huge mistake." No problem - go to Plan B, lop off one-third of the proposed area and move the whole issue to the 3,600-foot level of the mountain. That would be the equivalent of Whistler having put their village at mid-station.

After suffering 10 years of "consternation" (Oxford Dictionary definition: dismay causing mental confusion), GAS all of a sudden decides to change their master plan. That is a long time to be in that state. This sudden announcement by GAS shortly after the public comment period on the Environmental Assessment Office website ended showing overwhelming opposition to the project by many professional people, individuals and concerned groups. Makes one wonder how much effect the comments had on the big turnaround by GAS. There is another EAO comment period coming up in June. Hopefully by then we will be able to see the new GAS "master plan" showing the reconfiguration of all aspects of this project.
