The Squamish Public Library has an event happening on Tuesday (March 19) from 1 to 3 p.m. entitled Wii Love Spring Break. All school-aged children are invited to tale part in the Wii competition and to register, please call the library at (604) 892-3110.

Folks are reminded of the St. Patty's Dinner and Karaoke night on Saturday (March 16) from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 when Irish stew, bread and dessert are on the menu for $7 each.

The Squamish Food Bank will distribute grocery hampers on Wednesday (March 20) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Alano Club on Third Avenue.

The award presentation for a person or organization that has contributed to overcoming racism in Squamish will take place at the Squamish Public Library on Thursday (March 21) from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Squamish Public Library. This event is sponsored by the Squamish Multi-faith Association and is designated by the United Nations (UN) as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Birthday celebrations will take place at Hilltop House on Wednesday (March 20) at 2 p.m. when Mark Wilson, Hazel Balison, Chiguita Flippo and Azizah Talhery will be honoured.

The grand finale draw for the Rotary Club 200 Lottery for 2012-'13 was held at the weekly luncheon at the Howe Sound Inn on Thursday (March 7). Congratulations to Vicki Haberl, the $2,000 winner, Elizabeth Scott and Dorothy VanDer Ree ($1,000 each) and Mike Wellman ($200). The guest speaker at the luncheon was Dr. Judith Fothergill and she spoke on behalf of the Squamish Hospice Society and its great contribution to our community. After her informative presentation, Dr. Fothergill was presented with a cheque for $2,000 to further the work of the Hospice Society.

This evening (Thursday, March 14) at 6:30 p.m., Dr. Erin Wells Bonning from Quest University will speak at the Squamish Public Library on: Black Holes: Signals from the Vasty Deep.

During school spring break (March 16 to 30), the Britannia Mine Museum is holding a Lego Exhibit and Competition from March 16 to 24. Lego contestants are asked to submit a transportation-theme Lego creation and judging will take place on March 24 at 2 p.m. Submission to the competition is free and for more details, please visit: Britanniaminemuseum.ca. The regular admission fee will apply.

There is a wonderful and heartwarming story behind the play Calendar Girls and you won't want to miss Between Shifts Theatre's performances. The dates are Thursday, March 28, and Saturday, March 30, and the following week, Wednesday (April 3) through to Saturday (April 6) in the Eagle Eye Theatre at 8 p.m. each night. Tickets are available at Billie's Flower House and the Two Birds Eatery at $20 for adults and $15 for seniors.

Space is limited to 50 people for the free Internet Safety for Seniors workshop to be held on March 22 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Seniors Centre. To register, call the centre at (604) 848-6898 or register at the front desk.

The theme lunch at the Seniors Centre this month is Easter and the date us Thursday, March 28, at 11:45 a.m. On the menu is glazed ham, scalloped potatoes, cream corn and chocolate mousse for dessert for $9 members and $10 non-members. Please purchase tickets before March 27. The Side by Side Singers will also entertain with some favourite Irish songs.

It's bingo night at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 on Monday (March 18) with doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The Over the Hill Hikers will meet on Tuesday (March 19) at 9 a.m. at the Adventure Centre for a trip to West Vancouver and a hike in Nelson Canyon. For more information, call Heather at (604) 892-9003.
