Get frightened - or 'Inspired' - this weekend

For a thrilling, exciting and scary experience be sure to take your family and friends to "Frightfest" at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park. The dates are Friday to Tuesday (Oct. 26 to 30) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. each evening.

Explore dark corners, venture into the scary "Ghoul Train," wander through the trains at night and ride the mini-rail in the dark! Along with the ghostly fun, there will be treats for everyone. The cost is $5 each.

The Seniors Immunization and Wellness Fair takes place in the Senior Centre on Wednesday (Oct. 31) from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Be sure to take your Care Card along and wear clothing with short sleeves. There will be interesting displays and health tips and complimentary coffee/tea and fruit. The Clock Tower Café will be open for lunch. As there is limited parking, please carpool or take the bus.

"Inspired" is an evening of music featuring the original music of Joanna Schwarz and Carol Grolman along with stories behind their music. It takes place at Squamish United Church on Sunday (Oct. 28) at 7 p.m. and will include many musicians and singers including Brian Marchant, Anne Thomson, Aaron Purdie, Kevin Olafson, a quartet, the church choir and the youngest performer, 12-year-old drummer Connor Lum. This will also be an opportunity to meet the new pianist/organist, high school student Joy Keeler and choir director Kayla Matzen. Admission is by donation and will go towards the Music Ministry at the church.

The Squamish Public Library is having a special Halloween Photo Shoot for all 12 to 18 year olds on Wednesday (Oct. 31) from 5 to 6 p.m. Come in costume and get your face made up by a skilled make-up artist and then have your photo taken against a special Halloween backdrop. There will also be some tasty gruesome snacks at this free event. Please call the library at (604) 892-3110.

The Howe Sound Women's Centre Society has a special day planned on Tuesday (Oct. 30) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Howe Sound Inn and Brew Pub. The presentation is entitled Supporting Communities, Supporting Women. Organizations and those interested in learning about the signs of domestic violence and how to make safe and effective referrals are invited to attend. The ninth annual Scrabble Tournament will be held at the Squamish Public Library on Tuesday (Oct. 30) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This is a chance to have fun as you sharpen your Scrabble skills in preparation for Family Literacy Week, Jan. 21 to 27, 2013. You can play individually or in teams of two to four players.

On Wednesday (Oct. 31), the Squamish Baptist Church at 2262 Read Cres. is hosting a Fall Festival that will include free carnival games, video games, movies, crafts, baked goods, candy and more. Children and parents are encouraged to dress up in their favourite costumes excluding scary attire! The Senior Citizens Christmas banquet will be held on Friday (Dec. 7) in the Seniors Centre and tickets will go on sale at the centre on Thursday (Nov. 1) at $17 per ticket and cash only please. Don't be disappointed - get your tickets early.

The Friends of the Library are holding a book sale at the Squamish Public Library on Saturday (Nov. 3) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday (Nov. 4) from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This group is also sponsoring a fundraiser raffle and tickets are available at the library for the Nov. 29 draw.

The popular band The Paperboys will perform at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Saturday (Oct. 27) at 8 p.m. Tickets at $20 are available at the Gallery and Xocolatl.

It's bingo night at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 on Monday (Oct. 29) with doors open at 5:30 p.m.
