It is one thing for some Squamish city councillors to allow Squamish Mason Association to go ahead and build the skatebowl under the bridge, totally ignoring city staff recommendations to have SMA remove the skatebowl structure for very obvious reasons (not safe, brings crime into this residential neighborhood).
What a waste of taxpayers’ money on all the hours that city staff had to put into all the research for this project! Slightly off the topic, how is the District of Squamish keeping on top of all the problems that came with this facility?
Graffiti, just to mention one, on Mashiter Bridge (Quest University Bridge) has become a big problem. There was no graffiti before the skatebowl project started. I have walked in on these people doing graffiti on more than one occasion. I do know that other residents have also seen them and that on some occasions the police have been called. Despite of all that, the District of Squamish is not cleaning this mess up. I personally have to look at it on a day-to-day basis or to be very specific, any time I step into my backyard. I also have to smell and breathe in the aerosol from the spray paint cans these taggers are using.
Graffiti does not belong in any residential neighborhood. It is time for the District of Squamish to step up and clean up the mess this skatebowl facility has brought into our neighborhood. You allowed them to keep this skatebowl, so I expect you to keep my neighborhood safe and clean!
