Harvest Fest on tap at Railway Park

Harvest Fest 2011 is a family affair and is being celebrated at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park tomorrow (Oct. 1) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Once you have purchased your tickets for $25 per family, $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and members and kids $5, get ready for a day of riding a heritage train, the mini-rail or an old-fashioned hay ride. Check out the exhibits, enjoy the entertainment, tuck into some tasty food and a favourite with the kids - face painting.

Adults are urged to head back to the Heritage Park tomorrow from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. for Lost in the '50s Tonight. Dress the part and get ready to dance to the music of that era. Fifties DJs will be on site and classic movies will be shown. The vintage automobiles on site will draw lots of attention too. There will be great food, full service bar and a 50/50 draw. Grants are important to organizations in our community and on Tuesday (Oct. 4) at 7 p.m., the annual Grant Presentation and Squamish Vital Signs' report launch takes place at the Squamish Adventure Centre with a wine and cheese reception. This event is open to the public.

The Squamish CAN (Climate Action Network) is hosting a Squamish CAN-Seed saving workshop with Carolyn Herriot, author of the Zero Mile Diet at the Squamish Public Library on Sunday (Oct. 2) from 1 to 4 p.m. There is limited seating for this free event, and if interested in attending, please email [email protected] or call (604) 815-0928.

The Acoustic Jam is back at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Sunday (Oct. 2) from 7:30 to 10 p.m. and a warm welcome awaits you whether you play an instrument, sing or just want to enjoy the entertainment.

The Squamish Food Bank will distribute grocery hampers on Wednesday (Oct. 5) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Alano Club on Third Avenue. Anyone with fresh fruit or vegetables to donate is asked to take them to the Alano Club before 9 a.m. on Oct. 5 or call Susan at (604) 848-4316 before Wednesday.

The Healthy Brain Group for Older Adults provides a safe and supportive place for individuals to learn about this program. The Women's Auxiliary (WA) to Squamish General Hospital will hold their Christmas Bazaar on Nov. 12 and in anticipation of that date, members will be selling raffle tickets in different locations in the community. The WA will be at Nesters Market today (Sept. 30) and Sunday (Oct. 2). The prizes in the raffle are cash amounts of $350, $250 and $125. Tickets are available Monday to Friday at the Gift Shop at the Hospital. Many new items are now on display at the shop for gift giving.

Scrapbooking classes start at the Seniors Centre on Wednesday (Oct. 5) at 1 p.m.

Do pick up your tickets for the Tribute to the Legend of Country Music as performed by the Country Blend from southern Manitoba. The concert is Wednesday (Oct. 12) with show time at 7 p.m. Tickets are $22 each and available at the Seniors Centre. The concert is open to all ages.
