Join The Squamish Chief’s Millennial Mom columnist Kirsten Andrews on Tuesday (Oct. 14) at 7:30 p.m. for a free parenting talk at Cedar Valley Waldorf School, 38265 Westway Ave.
Andrews will be speaking on Building Independence Within the Context of Attachment as part of the school’s Community Parenting Education Series designed for parents, parents-to-be, care givers and educators.
“For many parents, raising children in this day and age is fraught with anxiety,” said Andrews. “Despite our best intentions we find ourselves hovering, worrying and questioning what were once perfectly normal experiences – like walking unsupervised to and from school. This talk is designed to delve into the challenges the world puts before us and how best to navigate them, so we can feel confident in our parenting choices and at the same time help raise children that are resilient and self-reliant.”
On Oct. 21 teachers Lauren Baldwin and Shannon Johnson will offer Media, Screens and Your Child’s Brain. No RSVP is necessary.
The lecture series wraps up with a special presentation at Quest University in the multi-purpose room on Tuesday, Oct. 28 with author, investigative journalist and former Sports Illustrated writer Luis Fernando Llosa from New York. Llosa will be speaking on his recent book Beyond Winning: Smart Parenting in a Toxic Sports Environment , co-authored with Kim John Payne (Simplicity Parenting) and Scott B. Lancaster, former National Football League youth sports director. Ticket information will be announced Friday (Oct. 10).
