I’m supporting Peter Kent for council and here’s why: Squamish is facing a host of challenges that could dramatically change our town, the economy, the environment and our unique way of life. We stand at a crossroads. The decisions we make now about Woodfibre LNG, oceanfront development, housing, wildlife and habitat conservation, transportation, infrastructure, social services and more will shape Squamish for generations to come.
That is why we need courage, conviction and vision. And that is why we need Peter Kent on council. Peter was the very first local candidate to boldly and publicly oppose the proposed LNG plant, vowing to do everything he can to stop this ill-conceived project that would threaten Howe Sound. He has pledged to push for a much more transparent council to rebuild trust in municipal hall. Through his volunteer work and during this campaign, Peter has demonstrated the key to being a good decision maker is to be, first and foremost, a good listener. As a councillor, he will reach out and engage all Squamish residents – including those who may disagree with him – to ensure their voices are heard. He understands that a vibrant, sustainable economy is one that protects our natural heritage and that we have a moral obligation to conserve Squamish’s biological legacy for our children and for their children.
At a time when many are disillusioned with government, I’m impressed by Peter’s ability to motivate others. We need someone like him on council – a leader who will inspire us to roll up our collective sleeves and tackle tough issues together, as a community, neighbour working with neighbour.
