I am hoping to be able to trace a former Royal Air Force airman who emigrated to Canada afrter World War II.
Flying Officer Robert George Leevers, Distinguished Flying Cross and Bar, was an Air Bomber who served with No. 166 Squadron RAF during 1943, 1944 and 1945. He completed a double tour of operations, nearly 50 missions, and was twice decorated for bravery. He flew on some of the most dangerous operations undertaken by Bomber Command, including several raids on Berlin. He completed the compulsory number of missions (30 raids), was rested andthen volunteered to return to his squadron as Deputy Bombing Leader to fly more combat missions.
I know that he emigrated to Canada after the war and I have been searching the Internet for a reference to him. I have placed several requests for information about him on RAF websites, but without luck. I then came across a reference a 1963edition of the Squamish Timesto a Robert George Leevers' intention to lease land on Butterfly Lake in your area. It is an unusual name and I wondered if it is the same man.
I am writing a reference book on 166 Squadron and I would very much like to contact Mr. Leevers or his family to pass on the information I have collected and to learn some more about him.
