It's a new conversation

This week’s issue of The Squamish Chief represents a significant milestone in the evolution of this publication and its connection with this unique community.

This week’s issue of The Squamish Chief represents a significant milestone in the evolution of this publication and its connection with this unique community.

Ever since The Squamish Chief debuted in 1991, our goal has been to serve the community by informing, enlightening and occasionally provoking our readers. In order to do that more effectively, we need to change with this rapidly changing community.

The newly redesigned Chief you hold in your hands, combined with our recently relaunched new website, is the result. With a new logo, contemporary page design and the introduction of a new section and new columnists, our goal is simple yet complex: we challenge you, the reader, to become an active and influential participant in the conversation. Whether you’ve been here for six months or six decades, you have a stake in the future of Squamish, and we want to be your source for news and your forum for discussion and debate, in whatever platform you want — in print, online or on your mobile device.

As part of our fresh new look in print we are excited to launch “The Chief Lifestyle,” a new weekly section of the paper that focuses on why we’re all here in the first place — LIFESTYLE. Discover a new food column written by Susan Hollis, a climbing column by Jamie Finlayson and a revamped “What’s On” calendar. Check out Katie Gerstle’s insight into the world of trail building and maintenance, with amazing black-and-white photography. Katie is a Quest University student and this is her first published piece.

Remember — “This is our year, Squamish.” Everything and anything is possible.

Also, don’t forget to pick up a limited edition Squamish Chief beer at Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Co. That’s sure to start the conversation.

In the end, any true community media source belongs to the community — to you, the reader. We welcome your questions, comments and suggestions on our new look and new content, or on any other topic. Please call me at (604) 892-9161 or email me at [email protected]. I look forward to the conversation!
