An event each year the kids look forward to is the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Brennan Park. On Sunday (April 20), the Squamish Fire Rescue crew will have everything ready for the fun hunt that takes place between 11 a.m. and noon. The popular Easter bunny arrives at noon and he is urging the kids and parents to take their skates along as he is heading into the ice arena for an Easter Skate from noon to 1 p.m.

The Britannia Mine Museum has its annual Dinosaur Hunt on Easter Sunday (April 20) at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Instead of chocolates, kids will be looking for plastic eggs filled with gems There will be little stations set up to count the gems and as well there will be gold panning, exploring, an underground train ride and more. The Mine Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Squamish Food Bank Community Bottle Drive is happening this weekend on Saturday and Sunday (April 19 and 20) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. You are requested to take your bags of beverage containers to the collection site at the Sandman Hotel from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day with all proceeds going to the Squamish Food Bank. If you need to arrange a pickup, please contact the [email protected]. The food bank thanks the students from Quest University for volunteering and to the Sandman Hotel and Regional Recycling.

St. John’s Anglican Church has its annual Spring Fling plant sale on Saturday (May 10). DeVry pre-order pickups must be ordered by April 25; order online at www.stjohnsquamish.ca. A variety of local plants, bulbs, garden equipment will also be available.

The Senior Co-Ed Bike group has a meeting on Wednesday, April 23 at 10 a.m. at the Squamish Seniors Centre. A Laughter Yoga session will be held on Saturday (April 19) at 3 p.m. The monthly theme luncheon featuring ham, scalloped potatoes, vegetables and dessert will be held on Thursday (April 24) at 11:45 a.m. Nancy Warwick from the Squamish Public Library will have a number of interesting books on display. Please purchase lunch tickets at $9 for members and $10 for non-members by Wednesday (April 23). The centre will be closed on Good Friday (April 18) and Easter Monday (April 21).

Stuffed, cuddly and colourful Easter bunnies (not the live variety!) are now on sale at the Gift Shop at Squamish General Hospital along with many other gift-giving items. The Women’s Auxiliary to the hospital will be at Nesters on Saturday (April 19) selling raffle tickets for their Spring Mother’s Day draw.

The main Rotary project for this Rotary year ending in June is to support the Squamish Hospice Society to further their service in our community. The senior women’s cycling group (WOW, Women on Wheels) is gearing up for a new season of riding and an invitation is extended for new members to join the weekly outings. The group rides almost every Monday from May to the end of October. Ride times and starting locations are in this column each week. There is no cost to join and all you need is a helmet, bike and coffee money. A meeting will be held in the Squamish Seniors Centre on Monday (April 28) at 10 a.m. and it is hoped new members will attend.
