It's Strawberry Social time

An event that is always well attended is the annual Strawberry Social at Hilltop House and it will be held this Saturday (June 2) from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

An event that is always well attended is the annual Strawberry Social at Hilltop House and it will be held this Saturday (June 2) from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Invite your friends and neighbours to enjoy delicious strawberry shortcake, coffee or tea for just $4 each. Donations for the bake sale would be much appreciated and as well, there will be an in-house raffle and 50/50 draw. The Hilltop House Support Society sponsors this event and all proceeds go toward programs and supplies that will benefit the residents.

Are you interested in astrology? Then plan on being at the Britannia Mine Museum on Tuesday (June 5) at 3 p.m. to learn more about the Transit of Venus. This event happens only every 100 to 120 years and a telescope will be set up for viewing it safely. Regular admission prices apply but it is free to members.

Seniors Week is observed from Sunday (June 3) to Saturday (June 9) and seniors are invited to drop by the Seniors Centre or Brennan Park Recreation Centre to pick up a stamp card. Once completed, you will be entered in the draw for some great prizes. Lawn bowling is underway this week and each Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and friendly competition is each Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Tinnitus Group for those suffering from ringing in the ears will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (June 5) and for more information, please call Peter at (604) 898-9975 or email [email protected].

The Squamish Food Bank will open its doors from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday (June 6) at the Alano Club on Third Avenue.

All good wishes to Jocelyn Pettit and her band who will be onboard the upcoming Holland America Celtic Music Cruise to Alaska. Jocelyn is such an accomplished fiddler, step dancer and singer and I'm sure we are going to hear more from this young lady in the future!

The Healthy Brain Group for Older Adults will next meet on Tuesday (June 5) from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Squamish Mental Health Office at 38075 Second Ave. If you wish more information, please contact Delores Stewart at (604) 892-6400.

Teens in our community are invited to the Squamish Public Library on Wednesday (June 6) from 4 to 6 p.m. for a Teen Tie-dye event.

Do plan on being at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Sunday (June 3) from 7:30 to 10 p.m. for the monthly Acoustic Jam.

In observing Seniors' Week, the Shannon Falls Retirement Residence on Third Avenue in inviting seniors to a Strawberry Tea on Thursday (June 7) at 2:30 p.m. and there will also be an opportunity to tour the facility. To reserve your free ticket, please call (604) 848-2000 ext. 5001.

The Tribute to the Legends of Country Music will be a concert that is sure to get your toes tapping! This concert will beheld is the Seniors Centre on Monday (June 18) at 7 p.m. and on Tuesday (June 19) at 10 a.m. Tickets are $20 each and include light refreshments.

The annual general meeting for the Squamish Seniors Centre will be held at the centre on Wednesday (June 13) at 1 p.m. I'll have more information next week.

Take in an evening of bingo at the Legion Hall on Monday (June 4) with doors open at 5:30 p.m.

It's official: Elaine Ramsay has retired as the planner of the bus trips for seniors! Elaine said the first trip she planned was on May 30, 1995 and it was a boat cruise and lunch around Howe Sound. When you see this lady, thank her for a job well done.

Having a milestone birthday is one to remember and I want to thank my family, friends and neighbours for the many cards, gifts and good wishes I received. Special thanks to The Chief staff and for the lovely bouquet of flowers and for the birthday photo - even though it was taken almost 20 years ago!
