EDITOR,
In response to Dr. Paul Martiquet's comments about legalizing pot, I say no way. If we legalize the use of pot, which is a drug, then we might as well legalize cocaine, LSD and other drugs. Where do you draw the line?
The good doctor condemns smoking cigarettes but is now saying that we should allow the smoking of pot in public. I think the good doctor needs to think again. Pot has the same cancer-causing chemicals in it as cigarettes do. The legalizing of pot is only going to be more of a burden on our already-stretched-thin health care system.By legalizing pot we are going to say... It's OK to be high at work and high in front of our kids; it's OK to do drugs.
I work in the construction industry and drugs have no place in our already dangerous profession.
By legalizing pot it is also going to have an effect on our environment. By that I mean more butts and packaging on the ground.
It is already estimated that there is approximately some 6 billion pounds of cigarette butts discarded each year on the ground and in our waterways all around the world. We don't need any more.
So please, Dr. Martiquet, rethink your position on the legalization of pot. After all, doctors are suppose to know what's best - or do they?
Please just say no to all drugs, pot included.Gord GunnerSquamish
