Some people really hate it when their name and picture goes viral.
Let’s face it, for shady people involved in shady business, it doesn’t make good business sense to have your name and image out there for the world to see.
Attention via Twitter, Facebook, newspapers, television news and the radio isn’t sitting too well with three guys the mountain bike community has deemed Squamish’s most wanted.
Sean Verret made a bold move on Monday, Dec. 29 when he published a video to YouTube showing three people coming into his garage and spending about half an hour shuffling things around inside and outside his garage. His YouTube video has been viewed more than 66,000 times. Verret posted the video to his Facebook page and that has been shared at least 170 times. The Province wrote about the video and Global TV did a piece on it as well.
The video captured by Verret was shared with the RCMP. The police aren’t saying anything about what’s seen in the video at this point because an investigation is underway into what happened that cold and windy morning late last month. Verret has solid assurances from the RCMP that justice will be delivered in short order. Keep in mind that proper investigations that result in successful prosecutions take time because paperwork has to be in order and the RCMP has to follow all the rules for laying charges.
Meanwhile, there isn’t much riding happening on the trails around Squamish because of the snow, but at the pub and at the gym, people are talking about Verret’s video. At the beginning of the video, three bikes are clearly visible in the garage and by the end of the video, there are no bikes left in the garage.
“Someone should take those guys up to the Nine Mile Bridge, strip them naked and tie them to a tree,” says one confident rider in between sips of India pale ale at a local pub.
“Bastards,” says his buddy as he nods in agreement.
There’s agreement around the table and leaking over to other tables occupied by other bike riders within earshot.
“People like that need to be taught a lesson,” says a third cyclist.
The conversation continues with everyone pitching in their own thoughts on the perfect vigilante solution for the trio.
As appealing as street justice might seem, it works against the efforts of the police as they try to find the guys described by Verret as Armani Toque Guy, Black Hoodie Guy and Chubby Adidas Pants Guy.
Chubby and his buddies have got to be wishing they never set foot in Verret’s viral garage-cam studio.
