EDITOR,

When I first heard the name Peter Kent it was from my son, then in Grade 6. "Mum, mum! You will never guess who I have for a Big Brother at school?"

So he rattled on for about 15 minutes about this eight-foot-tall guy who was a movie star and had been in a million movies and he was the coolest guy ever! I later found out that he was only six feet tall, a stuntman and that he hadn't quite been in a million movies, but he did turn out to be the coolest guy ever!

When Peter and my son met, my son didn't have any positive male role models, except for his granddad, in his life. He was going through a lot of emotional trials. He was shy and guarded. Very rarely would he laugh. That all changed when he met Peter. The change Peter brought out in him was so dramatic I could hardly believe it. He was confident, witty and you could see him smiling from a mile away. Peter was the one thing that was a for-sure thing in his life. When he said he was going to do something, he did it. If it wasn't for Peter lending an ear or shooting some hoops, or playing one of the marathon games of Uno with him, or just being there, I am sure he would not be the amazing person he is today.

After the Big Brother program had ended for them, they continued to stay in contact with my permission. Peter's wife, Marcia, says they are kindred spirits and I believe that to be true. They are brothers, if not through blood. Peter is always available to talk to my son and doesn't hesitate to invite him onto sets and Peter's very own stunt school to watch the fun.

Both Peter and Marcia have made my son a part of their family, which has extended to include two beautiful twin boys. Peter is, as I've said, "the coolest guy ever" for all the things he's accomplished in life. But the coolest thing he ever did in my mind, was commit to walking through the school doors all those years ago and change a young boy's life.

I have entrusted Peter Kent with one of the most precious things I have. I think intrusting Peter Kent with our town will have the same positive outcome. Fiona Bartlett
