Kids' 'Rock Day Camp' planned

The Squamish Food Bank will open its doors for grocery distribution on Wednesday (Aug. 15) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alano Club on Third Avenue. Anyone with fresh vegetables or fruit they would like to donate are asked to take it to the club on Tuesday or early Wednesday morning. If you wish produce picked up, please call (604) 848-4316.

Do plan on being at the Squamish Public Library tonight (Thursday, Aug. 9) at 7 p.m. to meet Van Clayton Powel, the author of the book You Are Not What You Eat. It should be an interesting session!

Seniors planning on attending the Summer BBQ at the Seniors Centre on Friday, Aug. 17, from 5 to 9 p.m. should purchase their tickets soon as only 50 tickets will be sold at $10 each. The evening includes burgers, salads and dessert, along with a no-host bar.

Another bus trip for seniors is planned and it is a day trip to Whistler on Sunday, Aug. 19. Tickets are available at the Seniors Centre at $10 each and the day includes a visit to Lost Lake, then heads into the Village for lunch (not included) and free time to wander and explore. The bus leaves the centre at 9 a.m.

I know there are lots of cute pets in our community and The Chief is planning a special pet section in the Aug. 16 edition. Drop your photos off at the office on Second Avenue or email your photo with your pet's name, breed and your name to: [email protected] by Monday (Aug. 13) at 4 p.m.

Hilltop House birthdays will be celebrated this month on Wednesday (Aug. 15) at 2 p.m. when Edna Payne, Ray Gaumond and Randy Walter will be honoured. Visitors are always made welcome and delicious birthday cake is served.

The Interpretive Walk from the Seniors Centre on Wednesday (Aug. 15) will be a pleasant Alice Lake walk led by Dawn Green and Meg Fellowes. Meet at the Seniors Centre for a 9:30 a.m. start and the cost is $5 payable at the front desk. Lunch hour Gentle Yoga is each Tuesday and Friday from 12 to 12:50 p.m. Lawn bowling is each Tuesday and Thursday and instruction is provided on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays are social drop-in times from 1 to 3 p.m.

Live at Squamish School of Rock Day Camp is for ages 11 to 13 and is offered by Recreation Services and Live at Squamish. It includes admission to the show and a sneak peek at how it all comes together, including a back stage tour.
