Thanks so much for the article on Gary McFarlane’s trail “Rupert.” The flash of Half Nelson grabs most of the headlines, and it is work worthy of high praise, along with its builder Big Red Ted.
However, there are many hard-digging people like Gary who have been making mountain biking happen for years. It is their volunteer labours of love that have created the recreational infrastructure that is helping to drive economic growth that we all benefit from.
Gary is one of many people that have given a huge part of their lives to create resources that benefit the community. For many, that means business. Mountain bikers buy bikes, and tacos, and pie, and drinks, and many other things, as do other adventure sport enthusiasts. Some of them, such as myself, love the community so much we end up buying a house here.
I cannot thank them all, but thanks Gary, thanks Jim, thanks Ted, thanks Matt, thanks Dave. You all know who you are. Thank you!
