Leave us kids alone

Editor, We at Howe Sound Secondary understand that the trail behind the school is disgusting and littered with garbage ["Clean it up," The Chief, Oct. 9].

Editor,

We at Howe Sound Secondary understand that the trail behind the school is disgusting and littered with garbage ["Clean it up," The Chief, Oct. 9]. Most of us have been walking it for years and many are doing their part in assuming the cleanliness of our community.

As for the others, it doesn't seem to matter. You can't force them to clean up after themselves if we can't stop them from littering in the first place.

What people in the world need to understand is that everywhere you go, there's going to be garbage all over the place. It's not only in the dumps but on the ground in every area of our cities and towns.

Students at Howe Sound have been doing their part by cleaning the trail every Wednesday after school. These students work extremely hard to keep our community clean and litter free.

Unfortunately, it's really difficult to do this every day, as these students are part of other activities in our community. Even to stay just once a week after school is a struggle for most students.

We're doing the best we can to keep our community healthy; now more of the community should step up and do the same. Until then, stop complaining because something is being done.
