Editor,

So the push is on again to get rid of bottled water because they're bad for the environment ["Bottled water band supported," The Chief, May 21].

Well, so are disposable diapers, feminine hygiene products, and undoubtedly condoms. Let's talk about TV and computer components while we're at it. And how about large exercise balls, rubber tires, rubber-soled shoes?

Cars and refrigerators should be added to that list, too, and so on. Sure some of those can be recycled but so can the bottles.

Does council intend to gradually make it illegal for all of these things to be sold?

Oh, and what about cigarettes and large quantities of alcohol? Fries, milkshakes, pop?

Not necessarily bad for the environment but definitely not so great for people. Our health matters so they should be banned, too.

I'm frankly getting really tired of all of the rules that keep getting pushed onto us in this community. Maybe the big brother types who apparently know so much more than the rest of us should teach us what they know and let us decide some things for ourselves.

In the meantime, I think it's finally time to put together some supplies in case of an earthquake... including bottled water while I can still get some.
