Bike or walk — don’t drive, say students.

As a student in environmental sciences at Howe Sound Secondary, I am very passionate about sustainability and our futures. My class is running an Earth Week event for our school.

We are interested in sharing some tips for living more sustainably with all of Squamish. Did you know that approximately 20% of our municipal carbon emissions are caused by organic waste in our landfill? And another 50% of our greenhouse gasses are from transportation?

We invite everyone to try out our 10 tips. Small changes make a big impact.

Now is the time to act!

Ways to live sustainably:

 •Bike or walk — don’t drive

 •Take transit or carpool

 •Plant trees

 •Grow your own food

 •Eliminate food waste

 •Eat less meat

 •Compost your organic waste

 •Say NO to single-use cups

 •Recycle your old cell phones

 •Donate your clothing/buy second hand
