A small correction to an otherwise excellent article about the Smoke Bluffs Park in Lifestyle (“Do you know why it’s called Smoke Bluffs?” April 14), in which the author indicates the main users of this park are walkers. It is true that the Smoke Bluffs Park Advisory Committee have worked hard to make the park inclusive, but informal traffic surveys by a member of the SBPAC reveals the vast majority are in fact climbers attracted to this unique urban rock-climbing resource.
The survey revealed car counts using 2.5 people per car (likely conservative) on a busy weekend between February and November, yielding a visitor count in excess of 1,000 visitors over the two days. This number does not include visitors who access the park by other means or those parking in areas other than the official parking lot.
Another interesting fact is that in high season, licence plates from all over North America are seen.
