In response to “Council discusses a raise” on the cover of The Chief, Dec. 22.
I could definitely see this coming. These people are paid extremely well for a group of people who are in training at best. I agree with Corrine Lonsdale that this is supposed to be a service to the community not what some of them are turning this into. If a raise is warranted then it should only apply to a new group.
All that happens is we pay these guys more. A long-term effect is you might draw a better quality of person and these ones go because we then have a better quality personnel. We can’t afford more of the same.
Saskatchewan and Manitoba are in the process of clawing back the wages in the public sector. We don’t have to do that, but a raise? C’mon.
Pretty well every other place in the world is struggling under public debt, but for some reason these people have tunnel vision and fail to see any of the problems that are all around.
Maybe it is tunnel vision and they are too busy to step back and see the big picture.
SLRD is also getting a raise. The official release says it is just a simplification, but the fact is if the members get more money for doing the same job – it is a raise. Spin it anyway you like, but it is a raise.
Municipal costs keep climbing and the taxpayer keeps getting less. This madness has to stop.
I am very disappointed with these council members. All they have proven to me is their judgment is impaired and if it is impaired here where else and how else is this poor judgment impacting the community long-term in the decisions that are made?
If more blue trees doesn’t scream poor judgment, than what does?
