Letter: Densifying Garibaldi Estates

'[T]he unelected bureaucracy has big-time input on neighbourhoods that others live in.'

The sub-areas of the Garibaldi Estates neighbourhood plan.

I have been following the densifying of Garibaldi Estates issue.

In a representative democracy, the people choose the environment they live in — right or wrong. The job of elected officials is to represent the voters. Their job is not to ignore the voters and do what the bureaucrats want.

In this instance, the unelected bureaucracy has big-time input on neighbourhoods that others live in.

It seems only a few can make these types of decisions, as the unwashed masses fail to see the big picture.

The track record of the anointed is not good; I doubt this time will be better.

While the District makes a big thing about community input, it is only propaganda — in practice, it is entirely different.

Since the feelings of the public are going to be ignored, maybe the option the community should look into is to divorce itself from the District and be governed by the residents.
