In regards to July 30 Chief article, “Ranch gets permit to host camping and events,” The Squamish Nation is objecting to the temporary use permit issued for this venue. Among their concerns listed was impact on wells caused by water use by hundreds of campers.
Where was their concern about water wells when they gave their blessing to the Garibaldi at Squamish (GAS) project, which will be sucking hundreds of millions of litres of water annually for thousands of people out of the Paradise Valley aquifer at a time when numerous wells in this area have gone dry?
The miniscule amount of water proposed for this campground for a few hundred campers, on a part-time basis, pales in comparison to the volume for the GAS project. Is there a double standard being applied here?
