I witnessed the destruction of food-bearing trees today, of a tiny grove in downtown Squamish.
I am always horrified that the start of spring is the end of trees. Certainly logging goes on every day the weather makes it possible.
These particular trees were home to birds, yes, as usual... but because of the nut they produced, they had been home to squirrels for decades.
Another 40-year-old “ornamental” cherry tree was also recently sliced to the ground.
In place of these life-giving trees will be concrete. The environmental laws have also been sliced to the ground and buried. Wrong has become right when it is for city development or financial gain.
