The Squamish Farmers' Market is one of many reasons to visit downtown.

The residents of Squamish know what a treasure of a town Squamish is. Nature and outdoor recreation surrounds us, and we enjoy the beauty every day.

However, what may not be so obvious are some amazing hidden treasures in our local small town businesses, tucked unassumingly off the hustle of the highway. People on their way to the big-business recreation further north up the Sea to Sky Highway would be wise to take the time and make a detour into our town.

Just a quick stop into Squamish will reveal an amazing selection of shops selling home decor, furniture, vintage jewelry, books and specialty coffee houses and boutiques bursting with character and charm.

Stop by our downtown or any of Squamish’s five distinctive neighbourhoods, stretch your legs and enjoy. You are certain to come upon a treasure that you would never guess was here. Squamish includes an immensely popular farmers’ market, a favourite weekend social hub running throughout the year; a growing rec-tech industry, and top-notch indoor recreational activities for all ages at the new climbing gym and a trampoline house. Squamish has a new vibe: young, happy, hip and friendly.

Lots of young families are streaming to our town for the peace, clean air and recreational opportunities. Squamish now has an interesting and diverse blend of longtime locals and newbies.

To build on the idea of Squamish as a treasure, a new event will be unveiled on the weekend of March 12-13, called Squamish’s Follow the Red Thread Treasure Hunt. The instructions for this Treasure Hunt are simple. Throughout town, look for Red Threads and follow them. At the end of the thread, you will find a little treasure.

The number of hidden treasures at this time are limited, however, so we ask that each person only picks up one treasure per day. If you do find more than one thread, share its location with others if you wish, but do not take the treasure. After all, we’re family-friendly and want to share with as many people as we can, all the good things around us. We hope you enjoy.
