Re: “Time to get rid of the ugliness about LNG,” editorial, May 21, 2015.
I want to applaud The Squamish Chief for taking a stand against the personal attacks that were leveled on Facebook over the Victoria Day weekend against one of our employees at Woodfibre LNG Limited.
We know that people have differing opinions about our project, and we have always encouraged an open and respectful dialogue within the community. Because of that, we meet with people regularly to answer their questions and to understand what they have to say about our proposed project.
But I believe Chief Editor Christine Endicott was absolutely correct; the personal attacks against our employee crossed a line.
The employee in question has lived in Squamish all his life. He has a family, he volunteers for numerous organizations, and he is deeply committed to this community. I understand people may disagree with his perspective – that’s a right I will always defend. But what happened here simply went too far.
My sincere hope is that Christine Endicott’s piece helps to reset this important debate so that in the days to come the focus is on the issues and not the insults.
