I am writing to you about looking into something concerning the people of Squamish who are on social assistance. It concerns the food bank.
There are a lot of people who get delivery, which is great. But one that we all could use is meat on food bank days.
I have spoken to a lot of people on assistance, and they have said it would help if we could get hamburger, which we could turn into a week’s spaghetti. This is what I do. And chicken can be stretched out greatly.
The money saved can go toward smaller bills, especially medication, which is not covered, or to help toward hydro and phone bills.
I have a daughter who lives in Enderby. She, her boyfriend and the people in her town give $10 toward food bank days, and they get meat two times a month. People not on assistance contribute, and it works well.
It’s just a thought!
