I am responding to the notice in The Whistler Question on July 18 (page 14) about N’Quatqua Logging Co. Ltd. trying to form a Stewardship Plan for the Forest Licence A81779.
I have to say that the forestry is trying to sneak behind the peoples’ backs to make this plan happen, when Darcy doesn’t receive The Question up our way.
So why doesn’t the forestry do their job properly and have the plan delivered to all N’Quatqua residents door-to-door, so the people know what is going on?
There has been poor communication. I will not accept this because the timber and values belong to the people more than it does to the chief and council and forestry.
I have said it before, if forestry doesn’t have any treaty with us, N’Quatua, they don’t have any jurisdiction coming into our area and taking our resources away. A lot of the N’Quatqua don’t have a say on what is planned until the last minute – it is too late to have their voice heard.
So after saying all this, I won’t let this plan happen. It will ruin what we have left. I want our younger generation to have something here when they grow. Maybe some might want to have their own log house to build and the timber won’t be there for them. You need good logs for a log cabin and the forestry comes in and takes away their future plan by taking that opportunity away from them.
The way the weather is changing gives us an idea about future logging – I see that four of our trees are getting attacked by different kinds of bugs, plus we are starting to see some of the United States weather, meaning more droughts, wind, warmer weather and strange fire behaviour.
