Letter: FortisBC listened

One of the first words most infants learn in the majority of languages is “no.” But parents constantly tell their children to listen carefully. Well, I commend FortisBC for listening to the community and Squamish Nation.

One of the first words most infants learn in the majority of languages is “no.”

But parents constantly tell their children to listen carefully.

Well, I commend FortisBC for listening to the community and Squamish Nation. The new compressor station at the base of Mount Mulligan and rerouted pipeline is a good example of a company considering feedback.

Community concerns of safety, Squamish Nation land and the environment have been addressed. It will further support expansion and development of Squamish’s industrial tax base, just as the pipeline from Squamish to Whistler allowed the resort to meet its Sustainable Energy Plan and economic development.

Some people may say no to any housing developments, daycares, drive-thrus, pipelines, a liquefied natural gas facility or an all-season resort. It seems companies wishing to do business in Squamish are listening closely.

It’s our responsibility as a community to engage in the conversations presented too, or else decisions will be made without us at the table.
