Mayor Patricia Heintzman, I read your column in The Chief on Jan. 12, and with reference to snow machines for sidewalks I hope the funds are found to purchase the required equipment.
As a long-time resident and businesswoman of the Squamish Valley, I feel the need to vent, mainly about the District of Squamish no longer removing the snow from sidewalks in front of businesses.
This was done back in the ’80s when I first came here.
I was told by someone at the District office that “historically this has never been done.”
Well, I and many other old-timers know different! It’s particularly insulting, especially when bike lanes are cleared immediately. (How many people ride bikes in weather like this, compared to those who require and need the sidewalks?)
It seems to me, you should change your priorities here.
I do know it is all about budget, but when there is money to paint trees and such, I and other taxpayers take offence.
