At the recent forum regarding the affordability of home ownership in Squamish, someone finally connected that good-paying jobs in the community will make homeownership more affordable to families.
What an amazing revelation! Good-paying jobs equals affordability! Well, let me connect the dots for those who can’t or won’t.
Two projects in this community, Woodfibre LNG and Garibaldi at Squamish, offer this community the ability to create decent-paying jobs and contribute to a diversified tax base. Too much of Squamish’s tax base is simply overtaxed residential that suffers annual increases and this contributes to our growing unaffordability.
These projects can be done safely and responsibly, and we need to begin working with these developments to ensure that they are implemented properly so that Squamish’s benefits are maximized.
