The following letter is from Jennifer Mansour’s class at Learning Connections.
Most people with their N are teenagers either in high school or fresh out, but there are still many in their mid-20’s out living life. If we are being completely honest, that age group (17 to 26) drinks fairly frequently and most of the time with friends. For the sake of more people getting home safely and with people they know,
N drivers should be able to have multiple people in their car. Not just because of drinking, but it will cost less for the majority of people and it’s far more eco-friendly. With that I think that people with their N should be able to have more than one passenger.
Parties, bars, or just chilled-out gatherings happen all the time with this age group (17 to 26 year olds) regularly. With our town in particular, everything is fairly spaced apart and shuts down at around 10 p.m.. Along with that, you almost never party somewhere close to where everyone lives so that give you two options, you can all go in one car, someone’s house or everyone but two people ride in a taxi all going to one location. That doesn’t make much sense, to me at least. It’s a waste of gas, it’s a waste of money and it’s just plain unnecessary. It’s also not even just when partying/doing reckless things, even driving to the city to see a movie, go shopping, or even just a location-less drive.
It causes more people to drive in that situation which again is unnecessary. Before anyone says take a bus, the only bus that goes from Squamish to Vancouver only comes twice a day, which is very inconvenient because you can’t do anything after 5 p.m. Though some would say “driving with more passengers would cause more accidents because there are more distractions in the car,” and that is true, it is more likely for there to be an accident with more people in a vehicle but there is also a high chance of an accident to occur with more cars on the road.
Therefore, people with their N should be able to have more passengers because it’s more cost efficient, it’s far eco friendlier, it’s safer in the sense there are less cars on the road and its overall a better time.
