Editor’s note: The following is one of the letters from Jennifer Mansour’s class at Learning Connections.
I personally think Squamish needs a movie theatre for many reasons.
The first reason is because the movie theatre closest to Squamish is in Whistler, which is 59.1 km away — approximately 48 minutes away, but if there was one in Squamish, it would be five minutes away.
Not having a movie theatre in Squamish would be inconvenient for a lot of people because the movie theatre would be too far away so instead of conveniently biking to the movie theatre you would have to inconveniently get in your car and drive to Whistler or Vancouver.
When people are looking for things to do that are digital and not outside, a movie theatre would be a good way to wind down. Not having a movie theatre sucks because you can’t keep up with new movies.
I also understand why they decided to remove it. It’s a small town so not everybody can go to the movie theatre on the weekends or go to the movie theatre in general.
A movie theatre would be a good decision to make in the area of entertainment in Squamish because everything is either outdoor or video games, for me personally. If a movie theatre building wouldn’t work we could have a drive-in movie theatre, which would be smaller and it would take a lot less time to build, depending on how big the structure is and it also be a lot more convenient for people because they could drive there in five minutes.
In conclusion, I think that we should have a drive-in movie theatre or a movie theatre.
