LETTER: Our mayor’s parking dream

In response to Mayor Patricia Heintzman’s column, “How’s this for a crazy idea in Squamish?” (March 9). The mayor suggested that since dike improvements are required, a parking lot could be facilitated.

In response to Mayor Patricia Heintzman’s column, “How’s this for a crazy idea in Squamish?” (March 9).

The mayor suggested that since dike improvements are required, a parking lot could be facilitated. This might be a decent idea if the developers pay for it, otherwise dredging is a cost-effective plan.

The area is tidal and dredging will do. There are areas where the force of a turning river could use reinforcing.

Further development will create a parking problem – development caused it, developers should pay to remedy it not the taxpayer homeowner.

In accounting you try to match expenses with revenue – in this case where is the revenue?  I know the taxpayer is expected to pay the expense.

Our mayor seems fixated on big vision projects, whereas the day-to-day management of our tax dollars is very poor.

Are all our roads great, ditches gone, sidewalks maintained, street lighting great, municipal hall maintained, etc.?

Our best mayors and council are the ones who best looked after the interest of the residents. The worst were the big-picture groups who strived to build statues to themselves paid for by the taxpayers.

It is nice to see a Mark Twain quote, but he had no faith in government or bureaucracy. Did you read him or is this à la carte? You can’t take any quote out of context , so close yet so far. By the way, Richard Branson and Mark Twain were and are followers of Henry David Theroux, who believed the best government is the least government.
